Call for course proposals - 2017

International faculty are invited to submit course proposals for Universidade da Coruña's International Summer School, which will be held in A Coruña in the summer of 2017. Courses shall be entirely taught in English. Each three-week intensive course shall have a total teaching load of 42 hours divided into 14 three-hour sessions and will have an academic value of 6 ECTS credits.

Requirements

Visiting teachers shall meet the following requirements:

  • They must be in possesion of a PhD or equivalent.
  • They must be regularly employed at a foreign institution for the whole duration of their teaching visit to the ISS. Their home institution shall be responsible for any wages or social security contributions during this period, and must be willing to sign an interinstitutional agreement and a teaching assignment form that will cover the activity of the visiting teacher at the host Universidade da Coruña.

What we offer

Universidade da Coruña will offer the following conditions:

  • Universidade da Coruña will help selected applicants obtain funding from their home universities under Erasmus mobility for teaching. To this end, it will sign an interinstitutional agreement, a letter of invitation, a teaching assignment, and a certificate of the teaching visit,  or a letter of invitation as a visiting researcher , as required.
  • Universidade da Coruña will offer paid accommodation and meals in a university hall of residence.
  • At the end of the course, Universidade da Coruña will issue a certificate to the visiting teacher stating the title and level of the course, the number of hours and credits taught.

Submissions

Visiting teachers shall apply by filling in the following course proposal form (Closed for ISS2017). Such form will contain the following information:

  • Information about the course:
    • The title of the course.
    • A brief description of the course (max. 200 words).
    • A list of topics.
    • An indicative reading list.
  • Information about the applicant:
    • Academic degrees and institutions awarding them.
    • Current affiliation and academic rank or position.
    • A list of publications and citations (a link to the author's Google Scholar or ORCID profile with suffice).
    • A brief narrative CV (max. 200 words).

Proposals should be submitted online by 15th February.  Candidates are encouraged to submit their proposals as early as possible, as this increases their chances of being accepted. Informal enquiries can be directed to iss@udc.es

SELECTION PROCEDURE

  • By the 15th of February:
    • Reception of course proposals. Candidates are encouraged to apply early in order to maximise their chances.
  • As soon as a course proposal is received:
    • The proposal will be sent to the relevant faculties, which will assess the suitability of the course for their students, as well as the likely demand among them.
  • As soon as each proposal is evaluated and in any case by the end of February:
    • Applicants will be informed if their proposals have been preselected. The University will publish the list of preselected courses on its website, and open the student registration period. A minimum of 10 students is required for the viability of a course.
  • As soon as a minimum number of students are registered and in any case one month before the start of their course:
    • Visiting teachers will be informed about the confirmation of their course proposals.
